Bohol Philippines Heritage to its Famost Places

The stunning richness of Bohol's heritage is evident in the centuries-old stone churches with exquisitely-done interiors, painted ceilings, and elegant retablos housing rare images of saints. Ancestral houses and historical sites also dot the island.

Declared as a national historical landmark by the National Historical Institute (NHI), the Immaculate Conceptioin Parish Church in Baclayon is one of the earliest built in the country.

Its museum holds a treasure trove of antique images, vestments, and church relics. The churches in Loboc and Maribojoc are other NHI declared landmarks while the Loon Church is truly grand.

The Assumption of Our Layd Shrine in Dauis is now a pilgrim center for Marian devotees with the adjacent convento housing the Assumpta Museum; Cafe Lawis serving unique Boholano cuisine; and Handumanan Shop for souveniers showcasing local crafts.

The Clarin Ancestral House in Loay, with its museum and Cafe Olegario, and the heritage houses in Baclayon provide a glimpse of the Boholanos way of life in the past century.

Ancient watchtowers erected as part of the island's defense system is worth a visit. These are the Punta Cruz Watch-tower in Maribojoc (NHI-declared historical landmark) and those in Dauis, Panglao, Loay, and Baclayon.

                                                     PUNTA CRUZ TOWER

The Blood Compact Shrine at Bool, Tagbilaran City, sculpted by Boholano National Artist Napoleon Abueva, commemorates the historic event in 1565 with native chieftain Datu Sikatuna and Spanish General Miguel Lopez de Legaspi.
